Isuzu Panther, more performance please

Look at that big tires, adequate ground clearance and (moderately) satisfactory look. Too bad no significant improvement for its diesel engine.

Akhir2 ini saya sedang memperhatikan mobil2 yang saya anggap praktis. Praktis di sini dalam artian ga ribet, ga bikin susah dan praktis menurut hemat saya adalah yang memiliki ground clearance yang mumpuni untuk melewati berbagai medan jalan. Di samping itu salah satu kategori yang saya perhatikan adalah mobil2 diesel. Sebenernya salah satu produk yang buat saya cukup menarik adalah Isuzu Panther. Diesel sudah pasti, untuk urusan body saya ga terlalu menghiraukan tapi buat saya pribadi ga ada yg istimewa tapi juga ga jelek cukup lah untuk dipake sehari2, plus lagi Panther seri Adventure, Touring dan Grand Touring sudah memiliki ground clearance yang mumpuni.

These days I’ve been observing practical cars. The word ‘practical’ means reliable, not troublesome, and based on my own dictionary means an adequate ground clearance which is reliable to go through different kind of road. Other than that diesel engine is in my consideration. Actually there’s a product which is quite satisfactory, it looks okay nothing special but not bad either, it’s Isuzu Panther. Even more for the 3 new generation have an adequate ground clearance.

Sialnya, dengan pricing di kisaran 230-270 juta rupiah (untuk seri Adventure, Touring dan Grand Touring), Isuzu ga memperbaiki performa engine-nya yang ‘hanya’ 80HP dan bertorsi 191Nm. 80HP untuk motor mid-class atau entry-level moge mungkin berperforma ‘cukup’, tapi untuk sebuah Panther? Come on today’s 2013.. dengan kapasitas 2500cc saya si ga berharap Panther sampai seperti Toyota Fortuner atau Mitsubishi Pajero Sport but at least I expect more than 100HP horsepower and over 200Nm of torque for a 4-wheels diesel vehicle today.

BUT… Regardless of its (moderately) satisfactory features, with the price-range within 230-270 million rupiahs (Adventure, Touring & Grand Touring -type), Isuzu does not improve its performance. It’s ‘only’ 80HP of horsepower and 191Nm of torque, 80HP is like a Ducati Monster but this is a car with tons of weight. Come on.. toda’s 2013, with the capacity of 2500cc, I don’t expect Panther to be like Toyota Fortuner or Mitsubishi Pajero Sport but at least I expect that 2500cc diesel engine to have more than 100hp of horsepower (120hp maybe) and over 200Nm of torque.

Bottomline, sayang sekali dengan harga yang kompetitif, diesel engine, ground-clearance yang ‘memuaskan’ dan look yang ‘cukup’, Isuzu Panther tak kunjung diberi performa yang lebih baik.

Bottomline, too bad this 2500cc diesel engine with a competitive price, adequate ground-clearance and moderately satisfactory look never receive any imrovement for its performance.

Jika saya adalah produk planner Isuzu, saya akan sangat tertarik untuk bikin versi SUV dari Isuzu D-Max.

Let’s say if I were the product planner of Isuzu (once again “Let’s say”), I would be very interested to make the SUV version of Isuzu D-Max.
